The Answer Is Yes. And It’s Probably Simpler Than You Think.
One of the most common things people say when they walk into Mobile Lizard is some version of “I’ve been putting this off for months.” They assumed it would be too expensive, too complicated, or that the phone would never be quite the same.
We understand the hesitation — but in most cases, a cracked screen is very fixable, quite affordable, and when it’s done right, your phone works exactly as it did before. Here’s what you should know going in.
What’s Actually Being Replaced?
When a phone screen is replaced, the technician is removing the damaged display assembly — which includes the glass, the digitizer (the layer that reads your touch input), and in most modern phones, the LCD or OLED panel — and installing a new one. On iPhones especially, these components are integrated, so the whole assembly is replaced as a unit.
The rest of your phone — your data, your settings, your apps, your battery — is completely untouched.
OEM vs. Aftermarket Parts: What’s the Difference?
This is a question worth asking any repair shop. OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts are made by or to the exact specifications of the phone manufacturer. They match the original in color accuracy, brightness, and touch sensitivity. Aftermarket parts are third-party replacements — often less expensive, but quality varies significantly.
At Mobile Lizard, we carry both, and we’ll tell you clearly which is which and what the cost difference is. For many people, a quality aftermarket screen is perfectly fine. For professionals who depend on color accuracy, photographers, or anyone with an OLED model, OEM is often worth the premium. We offer OEM screens on select models — just ask.
How Long Does It Take?
For most models, a screen repair at Mobile Lizard takes between 30 and 60 minutes. You’re welcome to wait at the shop, grab a coffee nearby, or browse Patterson Park — one of the best neighborhood parks in Baltimore — and come back when we call you.
Is It Worth Fixing or Should I Replace the Phone?
A good rule of thumb: if the repair costs less than half the cost of a replacement phone, repair is almost always the smarter move. Use our Repair Cost Calculator to see what your specific repair costs — then compare that to what a new phone would run you. More often than not, the math is pretty clear.
